Underwater Archaeological Park of Angra do Heroísmo Bay

This park is a true underwater museum, preserving testimonies and traces that prove the strategic importance of the city of Angra throughout the centuries.

Historical data found indicate that in the bay of Angra, since 1552, more than 90 shipwrecks have occurred, with a large part of the sunken ships still to be located.

The underwater cultural heritage currently recorded is under the care of the Regional Government of the Azores and is part of the Archaeological Park of the Bay of Angra, created in 2005 by Regional Regulatory Decree No. 20/2005/A of October 12.
